Nicaragua Water Outreach Project
November 4 - 12, 2011
La Villa Quince

A story of rice and beans…..but wait…..read on, there is more.  There are flowers blooming everywhere.  It is just after the rainy season.  The sugar cane crops are tall and the trees are green leafed and some have fruit on – bananas, plantains, coconuts, papaya, limes.  The children are running, skipping, jumping – no not with a rope or toys but just with one another; full of life and laughter.  There is water everywhere.  Ditches are full and streams are running quickly.
BUT the water even from the wells is not safe to drink.  Pollution is ramped.

A call was made by past president Pastor Luis Antonio Diaz Turcios of the Lutheran Syndical Church in Nicaragua for a team to come down and install water filters in the homes in the village of La Villa Quince.  Nine of us from the Winnipeg area was met our American leader from MOST Ministries (Mission Opportunities Short Term) and then traveled to Managua, Nicaragua and from there to Chinandega and from there daily to La Villa Quince, a small village out side of the city.

Here we taught health and hygiene, Bible stories for the children and assembled 22 water filters and installed them in the homes.  What an experience.  What a joy to witness their faith, love and hope.  And we were the recipients of this all.  Their excitement showed in the willingness to assist a hand full of foreign miss fits in their country to make life a little safer – one drink at a time.

How blessed we are with so much and the opportunity to share with those who have so little.  So little but like the woman in the Bible story, they were willing to share whatever they had with us in appreciation for coming; their one and only mite.  Welcomed into their meager homes they gave us friendship; something that cannot be bought.

If your hearts are moved, come aboard as we await God’s call to our next destination.  Willing to do a presentation on this adventure.  Please call Marilyn Swain at 668-5590
