August 28, 2011
Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost
Pastor Brad:  799-3671 / Pastor Ward:  998-1993

Welcome!  What does it mean to be the “Son of God?”  The disciples thought it meant “power and privilege.”  As far as Peter was concerned, his Lord should use His privileged position as the Son of God and avoid this cross business.  But to Jesus, “Son of God” meant obedience – even to death on a cross!  And if that’s what it means for the Master, what does it mean for those who follow Him?  If that’s what it means for God’s only-begotten Son, what does it mean for us, His sons and daughters adopted by Holy Baptism?  It means obedience unto death, knowing we’ll have everlasting life.  It means suffering the hatred of the world, knowing we have the love of the Father.

Prayer Upon Entering Church Lord, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your glory dwells.  In the multitude of Your tender mercies, prepare my heart that I may enter Your house to worship and confess Your holy name; through Jesus Christ, my God and Lord.  Amen.

In our prayers: Carl Bittner, Rick Kehler, (brother-in-law to Diane McEachern), Chris Borger’s mother, and upcoming marriage of Matthew Bittner & Adelle Young in Saskatoon.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will have their start-up meeting on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:00 P.M.  We invite all the women of the congregation to join us for study and fellowship.

On Thursday, September 8 at 6:30 P.M. there will be an Orientation Meeting for all Junior Confirmation students.  We hope to see all the students and parents there.

THIS WEEK:
Pastor Brad on holidays till Sept.7.

TODAY – Farewell for Pastor Ward following service

Wed. Aug. 31 – Summer Evening Service @ 7:00 P.M.

A Church Picnic and Outdoor Service will be held Sunday September 18th at 10:30 AM. at Hyland Park 2.5 kms north of the perimeter on Henderson Highway (riverside). This will be in place of Sunday school and service at the church.   Our Praise Band will be providing music.  Please bring lawn chairs and a side dish to share at lunch.  Hotdogs and hamburgers will be provided.  There will be games and activities for all ages in the afternoon.  Grace Lutheran Church, Beausejour has also been invited to join us. Come out for a day of fun and fellowship!

Holy Communion As we come to the Lord's Table today, we prepare our hearts by asking:

If you have never communed here before and would like to partake of Holy Communion, please make your intentions known to the pastor before the service.   That would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Thought for the Day Romans 12:9-21:  Christian stewards are people who are joyful in hope, patient in affliction and patient in prayer.  We lovingly practice Christian hospitality and share with people in need.  Jesus told us that “others will know we are Christians by our love.”  What we say and do as God’s stewards really does make a difference.  How we use our resources, whatever they may be, makes a powerful witness to our love for Jesus who first loved us.

NEEDED: Volunteers to cut the lawn.   Please choose a week and sign up on the bulletin board.

WE NEED YOU! Teaching Sunday School is a wonderful way to share the love of God.  Children are so precious to the Lord and need a solid foundation on which to build their lives.  If you would like to help with our Sunday School program in any way, please contact Jody Harris, our superintendent at 487-4348 or  purrykitty@mymts.net. Our Sunday School resumes on September 11th, with an intergenerational Kick-off.

"Life Without Regrets" Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus The risen Redeemer is God's promise that the day of judgment will not be one of regret for those who trust in Him. September 16 – 22 Winnipeg is hosting a Pastors with Alternate Training (PAT) conference.  This is the first PAT conference in the history of the 10 plus years of the PAT program.  All are welcome to attend an opening devotion and time of fellowship on Friday, September 16 at 8:00 pm and to attend sessions Saturday to Thursday.

We are looking for some volunteer assistance.  We need volunteer drivers to provide transportation between the Winnipeg airport and the Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) on Friday, September 16 and Thursday, September 22.  Conference participants would like to attend worship at local congregations on Sunday, September 18.  We are looking for hosts from each congregation for Sunday.  This would involve picking up two or three people at CMU for worship at your congregation, providing lunch, and taking them back to CMU by 2:00 pm.  This will be an excellent opportunity to get to know some of our PAT students and learn about the mission work they are doing in ethnic communities across Canada. Thank you for considering assisting!
If you are interested in attending or volunteering, please contact Iris Barta at the LCC Synod Office (895-3433 info@lutheranchurch.ca)

YOUTH – Mark your calendars: “Forever - Ultimate Survivor” Youth Retreat October 21-23 @ Red Rock Bible Camp.  Please see Pastors or Bill Wardekker for more information.
